Integrations
Neuratel uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect external tools and services to your AI agents. Register an MCP server, and Neuratel automatically discovers its tools — your agents can then call those tools during live conversations.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting external tools to AI systems. An MCP server exposes a set of tools (functions) that an AI agent can call. Examples:
- A CRM server that exposes
lookup_customer,create_ticket,update_record - A calendar server that exposes
check_availability,book_appointment - A database server that exposes
query_inventory,get_order_status
How It Works During a Call
- The call connects and the agent delivers its greeting.
- In the background (no latency impact on the greeting), the platform loads the agent's configured MCP tools.
- When the agent determines it needs to call a tool, it invokes the MCP server.
- The server processes the request and returns data.
- The agent incorporates the response into its conversation naturally.
Tool loading happens asynchronously after the greeting, so there is no added latency to the initial response.
Security
MCP servers are called over HTTPS. You can configure:
- Authentication headers — API keys, bearer tokens, or custom headers sent with every request to the MCP server
- Timeout — Maximum time to wait for a tool response (default: 30 seconds)
Credentials are stored using encrypted storage and are never exposed after creation.
Creating an Integration
Register an MCP server with Neuratel:
Code
On creation, Neuratel connects to the server, discovers available tools, and stores the tool definitions.
Listing Discovered Tools
After registering an MCP server, view the tools it exposes:

Refreshing Tools
If the MCP server adds new tools or updates existing ones, refresh the cached definitions:
Code
Testing a Tool
Execute a tool manually to verify it works before assigning the integration to an agent:
Code
Assigning to an Agent
Include the integration ID in the agent's tools.mcp_servers list:
Code
The agent will now have access to all tools from the specified MCP servers during calls.
