SMS Messaging
Neuratel provides SMS and MMS messaging through your registered phone numbers. Messages are organized into threads grouped by the number pair (your number and the contact number). Messaging is managed from the Channels section of the dashboard.
Sending Messages
To send an SMS or MMS from the dashboard:
- Navigate to Channels in the sidebar
- Select the phone number you want to send from
- Find or start a conversation thread with the contact
- Type your message and click Send
To send MMS (with media), attach an image or file to the message before sending.
Message Statuses
Messages progress through these statuses:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
queued | Message accepted, waiting to be sent |
sent | Message sent to carrier |
delivered | Delivery confirmed by carrier |
read | Recipient read the message (if supported) |
failed | Delivery failed — check error details |
Threads
Each conversation between your number and a contact is organized into a thread. Threads are created automatically when you send or receive the first message with a contact.
Thread Statuses
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
active | Ongoing conversation |
archived | Archived by user, can be reopened |
closed | Conversation ended |
Receiving Inbound SMS
Inbound SMS messages appear automatically in the Channels view as they arrive. You can also configure a webhook to receive real-time notifications:
- Go to Settings → Webhooks
- Create a webhook subscription for the
message.receivedevent - Neuratel sends a POST request to your endpoint when a message arrives
Best Practices
| Practice | Why |
|---|---|
| Include opt-out instructions | Required for compliance (e.g., "Reply STOP to unsubscribe") |
| Keep messages concise | SMS has 160-character segments; longer messages split into multiple |
| Use E.164 format | Always use + prefix with country code (e.g., +14155551234) |
| Respect quiet hours | Avoid sending outside business hours for your recipients' timezone |
